BWLAP's mission is to promote justice for victims of domestic and sexual violence. BWLAP achieves its mission by advocating for: system change, secure access to justice for all, and improvement of the legal system's response to victims and their children.
About the Battered Women's Legal Advocacy Project
BWLAP is a state-wide program that serves victims of domestic and sexual violence, their advocates, attorneys, and the general public in Minnesota. BWLAP provides legal information, consultation, state-wide training, litigation support, technical assistance, and develops model policy for domestic violence programs. We work with issues around confidentiality, record keeping, conflict of interest and children's records, to name a few. We exist to respond effectively to the constantly evolving legal needs of victims and we are the first resource people turn to in a legal crisis. BWLAP recognizes the importance of an effective and skilled advocate to victims. We also address emerging issues in the realm of sexual and domestic violence, including victims' rights, human trafficking, and immigration status of victims of violence.
