Mission Statement

The Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Volunteer Services was formally organized in 1959 to manage the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers and to promote community understanding of its needs and services.

Description

More than 10,000 people work at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, and although it draws patients and scholars from all over the world, Hopkins remains firmly commited to serving the health needs of the region. The Johns Hopkins Hospital has rendered more charity care in Baltimore City than any other institution. Today more than 1000 volunteers are placed in the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The purpose of the volunteer program is to augment the services of The Johns Hopkins Hopital in order to extend the best patient care possible. The volunteers supplement the hospital staff but do not replace them.
