Mission Statement

Our mission is to keep pets with the families that love them, and out of shelters.

Description

We believe most of the reasons a loved pet is separated from its family can be avoided or repaired. If the problem can be resolved, one less pet ends up in the local shelter, waiting for a new home.

Currently we have two programs to keep pets and their people together.

First, we harness the power of the Internet to reunite lost pets with their owners. IowaPetalert.com is a unique (free!) service that uses social media to quickly broadcast information about missing or found pets to people in the area (follow us on Facebook and Twitter by following the links below). We've already helped many dogs and cats find their way back home.

Second, our Pet Pantry program provides pet food and supplies to families experiencing financial difficulties.

We also offer a "Paws for Life" program for Pet Pantry participants who are elderly, severely disabled or have a service animal and needs that go beyond temporary support.

This organization is grass-roots, driven by people who love animals and recognize the value of the pet-people bond in the human experience. The volunteer board is hardworking, committed, generous with their time and resources, and fun to be around. The volunteer crew is a mix of regulars and newbies, youngsters from local schools and retirees, couples, families, and singles. It's a great place to spend some free hours.
