Mission Statement
To improve and protect the Upper Big Sandy River Watershed especially around the Russell Fork River through volunteers, partnerships, and education while promoting the economic development of the local community. We work to close straight pipes, promote environmental education in the schools, clean up the river, and conduct water quality tests on the local waterways.
Description
Friends of the Russell Fork (FoRF) is a young organization that is volunteer-driven. The organization works under the Appalachian Coal Country Watershed Team, which works to improve environmental conditions and the quality of life in impoverished coal-mining communities throughout Appalachia. FoRF is very actively involved with the town of Haysi as well as Dickenson and Buchanan counties in Virginia. There is a small lab set up in the office for testing water. FoRF works to build partnerships with other organizations.
