Mission Statement

The mission of the Heritage Society of Austin is to ensure the preservation of our diverse community's architectural and cultural past for present and future generations.

Description

HSA is a nationally recognized preservation organization dedicated to protecting the diverse architectural fabric of the Greater Austin community. Founded in 1953, HSA is a proactive leader with local, state, and national policy makers. We work closely with other organizations to keep preservation at the forefront of the public policy agenda. HSA organizes many educational programs for the community including an annual Heritage Homes Tour showcasing historic homes and buildings, a REALTORÃ Â training course in historic preservation, developing history curriculum for children in schools that teaches the relationship of history to current and future events by utilizing historic properties and artifacts, providing loans and grants to individuals and groups to restore buildings of historic significance or architectural importance, and hosting an annual Preservation Awards Celebration to honor local heroes and organizations for their commitments to preservation in Austin.
