Mission Statement

Harbor Heritage Society's mission is to preserve and develop the WILLIAM G. MATHER, an historic former Great Lakes freighter flagship, as a premiere maritime heritage and educational facility.

Description

The Steamship WILLIAM G. MATHER is the "Ship That Built Cleveland" since it carried millions of tons of iron ore to Cleveland's waiting steel mills from 1925 - 1980. Now restored, the historic 618-foot long MATHER is open May - October for tours and programs on Northeast Ohio's Great Lakes shipping heritage. The MATHER Museum is permanently moored in Downtown Cleveland's North Coast Harbor Park and is Northeast Ohio's only floating maritime museum.
