Mission Statement

Youth Advocacy aims to provide community based substance abuse prevention and intervention services to Travis County youth and families.

Description

Since 1975 Youth Advocacy has provided intervention services to adolescents in the inner city areas populated primarily by people of color and focused on youth. The plurality of them is Hispanic youth. Our main methods of service delivery are through street outreach and provided alternative activities, mentoring, counseling, educational and advocacy services. We include structured services that are inclusive of the younger siblings and parents of the youth in the program. Our emphasis has always been to use educated and trained community people to provide services and prescribe to the philosophy of exhibiting "unconditional positive regard" toward clients. We have gained a reputation as an exceptionally culturally sensitive program and are recognized as an indigenous support system for the target population. Our newest program is called Connect for Youth Mentoring and seeks to provide after school mentoring support at 2 school campuses. We aim to match positive community adults with small groups of at risk youth, who receive guidance, support and encouragement.
