Child & Family Guidance Center 8915 Harry Hines Blvd. 214.351.3490 Historical Information For over one hundred years, Child and Family Guidance Center (CFGC) has provided much needed services to our community. The Family Guidance Center founded in 1896 and the Dallas Child Guidance Clinic founded in 1923 combined their resources in 1996 to form the Child and Family Guidance Center. Previous to that merger, the Center for Help of Abused and Neglected Children (CHANCE) had joined with the Dallas Child Guidance Clinic in 1993. Through the consolidation of these three well-respected non-profit corporations, the resources to provide critical and life enhancing services to clients and the community were expanded and strengthened. Child and Family Guidance Center's mission is "To provide quality professional services, training and research designed to prevent and alleviate emotional and behavioral problems in the lives of individuals, children, and families." Description of Organization A community based mental health provider of services designed to nurture children, strengthen families, and empower individuals. Through its main location and 5 strategically located satellites, CFGC served over 9,700 individuals in 2000. Under the direction of a professionally trained staff, the individual programs are designed to enhance individual and family functioning, while identifying and addressing emotional and psychological needs and problems. Services Offered The three key components of Child and Family Guidance Centers services are: 1. Family & Community Education including parent and child divorce education, parenting education, truancy prevention, and child-focused social and academic skill development. 2. Therapy-Based Services offering individual, group, and family therapy; psychological assessment; substance abuse prevention and intervention; corporate consultation and employee assistance; and psychiatric consultation, evaluation, and medication management. 3. Professional Training providing pre-doctoral training program for psychology, training site for psychiatric residents and social work interns, and continuing education for mental health professionals.
