Description

CIS of Philadelphia is one of 150 independently incorporated affiliates of Communities In Schools, Inc, the country's largest stay-in-school network, incorporated in 1977. Since its own incorporation in 1986, CIS of Philadelphia has worked in close partnership with the School District of Philadelphia to leverage community resources on behalf of students and their families. Currently, approximately 10,000 students per year are being helped to successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life. A major focus is non-traditional students -- overage, under-credentialed, pregnant or parenting -- whose needs can be most adequately met with a specialized programmatic approach designed to provide each with what we call The CIS Basics: a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult; a safe place to learn and grow; a healthy start in life; a marketable skill to use upon graduation; a chance to give back to peers and community.
