Mission Statement

Cape Fear Regional Theatre is committed to presenting an annual series of professional, quality plays, performances and special events that, in addition to entertaining, will enlighten, inspire, and educate performers and audiences. CFRT seeks diversity in its artists, as well as its audiences. The Theatre brings together a unique combination of artists: professional from outside the region, regional professionals, and non-professionals. CFRT seeks to maintain a working environment of mutual respect and support, creative freedom, and collaboration.

Our mission is to enlighten, inspire and educate and we believe in the power of live performance that it can accomplish that goal. We are advocates for arts in education and that is precisely why our partnership with the Cumberland County School District is so important. We know the arts improve academic performance such as grades and test scores, particularly SAT scores. The arts improve basic skills such as reading and mathematics as well as self-discipline and self-efficacy. That is why we hold the door open wide to young performers of all racial and cultural backgrounds. We know theatre is a place of discovery and we strive to maintain a safe place for young performers to explore the limitless possibilities of artistic expression.

Description

Cape Fear Regional Theatre (CFRT) is unique among regional theatres. It is not a union house though it follows professional standards. It brings in top talent from Broadway while providing a stage for CFRT trained performers. It has built its reputation on quality productions that attract over 3,500 subscribers annually. It is the recipient of numerous awards and is the first theatre most children in the Cumberland County ever come in contact with. The main-stage produces a variety of classic and new works and CFRT is frequently first in line to acquire the rights to Broadway hits. Every holiday season the theatre is alive with the sounds of excited children coming to see The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and every eight weeks the Studio Share Night provides children ages pre-school to high school the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned while studying at CFRT. In the summer we have theatre camps that give children an opportunity to participate in a staged play or musical. We know that the legacy of any theatre depends on building future audiences so that no generation will pass that does not know, does not recognize the singular importance of theatre. Theatre is where all the art forms meet.
