Mission Statement

The Designated Drivers Association (DDA) has one goal: to protect our roads and highways from the needless tragedy of accidents caused by drug and alcohol impairment, preventing deaths, injuries, and the tremendous costs caused by Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

Description

We are a non-profit organization that organizes teams of volunteers to provide impaired drivers with a free ride home for both them and their vehicles.

I was actually rejected as a volunteer, after I had already proven myself. At a pre-event meeting, in response to a comment someone else made about drunken behavior, I mentioned several behavioral studies that had conclusively demonstrated that most of the behaviors we associate with drunkenness are in fact voluntary (and implicitly encouraged by society) and not directly caused by effects of alcohol. There was no argument or offense made at the time. For having made this comment in a private meeting of the volunteers, however, AND FOR NO OTHER REASON, I was asked to leave and not come back.
