Mission Statement

Open Door Theatre Frees Children From Abuse and Violence By Teaching Personal Safety Skills Through Dramatic Live Performances.

Description

Open Door Theatre was established in 1983 with the leading support of the Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office. It is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organiza-tion whose mission is to free children from abuse and violence, through our performances. We work with schools and other community youth organizations as an important part of their personal safety and health education. ODT has reached more than 400,000 children, mostly in the NW Washington area. We have traveled as far away as Korea, Panama, Oklahoma and Maryland. Teachers, counselors, and principals consistently rate Open Door as "excellent" on evaluations, noting its ability to educate and hold children's attention. We offer 3 age appropriate performances called "Stop It Now" for K-3rd (limited to 60 children, with 4 actors); "Talk About Stuff" for 4th-6th (limited to 90 children, with 4 actors); aperformance about bullying and harassment for 7th-12th grade(limited to 300 students, with 4 to 5 actors). Following the performances are workshops to discuss the personal safety skills, issues and solutions. We are located in the "A" Building of the old Arlington High School, although we are not affiliated with the school district. We have one staff (3/4 time) member, a part-time Artistic Director, and 8 to 10 part-time actors.
