The Mission of Berks County Office of Aging is to provide quality services to all consumers, based on their needs, in a responsible manner; to treat all persons with dignity and respect; to promote consumers self-determination; and to advocate for consumers rights.

Description

The Berks County Office of Aging is the department of county government responsible for planning developing, coordinating and implementing programs and services for Berks County rsidents over age 60.

A wide variety of services and programs are offered by the Office of Aging and its subcontracted agencies. Some services have eligility criteria and fees.

The agency, established in 1974, receives funding from the Pennsylvania State Department of Aging and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. Many aging programs are supported by the Pennsylvania lottery. An Advisory Council works with the agency on numerous aging issues.

Throughout the year, the Office of Aging sponsors community workshops and seminars to help people deal with issues related to aging. An annual public hearing is held each spring. Community participation and public comment on aging services is invited.
