Morning feeders are the first people the dogs see at 7am. All dogs are given short walks before returning to the barn for breakfast. Each dog is fed an individualized diet. Medications, if any, are also given according to a precise med chart. After breakfast, bowls are washed, beds are straightened and changed (if needed), floors are swept and water bowls filled. At 9am, the dogs settle down for a light snooze on a full belly until the next volunteers arrive at 10am. Feeders are some of the most important people in the dog's day. You will be well-loved and greeted with plenty of happy tails! Most of our work with dogs occurs outside, rain or shine. We may ask for proof of COVID-19 vaccination. We ask that you respect your fellow peers and any volunteers who have been knowingly exposed or have been traveling will isolate and only return to their shifts after testing negative.

Our vision is to provide large breed senior dogs (50+ pounds, 7 years or older) a safe and loving home-like setting which provides personal attention, regular food and exercise, medical care, and behavioral training. This includes all senior dogs regardless of medical condition, including those needing hospice care. We remain sensitive to those who love their animals and due to health or economic conditions may need such a place for their beloved dogs to live out the remainder of their lives. Volunteers are a vital component of the ongoing operation of Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary. They help feed, exercise and provide love to the dogs during their stay at Lily's. Our current volunteer needs are for Walkers and Cuddlers. Walkers should have prior experience with dogs and be able to handle dogs of all sizes and demeanors. If you do not feel comfortable in this role, cuddlers are also a current volunteer need! Our cuddlers do just as their title suggests, getting in some hang time with our senior pups either on the couch or in their kennel. There are now and will be many opportunities for contributions by volunteers both on and off site. Please let us know of any additional skills or expertise you may want to offer. As a small, primarily volunteer-led organization, we welcome help of all kinds. Lily’s Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary is located on 5 bucolic acres in rural Petaluma. We are looking for several individuals who would be interested in offering us the following maintenance support: 1. We have large grassy fields in which we walk dogs that require periodic mowing. 2. The field perimeters, driveway and fence edges all need regular weed whacking. 3. During the rainy season, we have to gather the fast-growing mushrooms to prevent dogs from ingesting them. 4. Miscellaneous weeding, watering, tree care, gutter and yard debris clean-up are ongoing tasks that are needed. 5. Construction/maintenance projects Most of our work with dogs occurs outside, rain or shine. We may ask for proof of COVID-19 vaccination. We ask that you respect your fellow peers and any volunteers who have been knowingly exposed or have been traveling will isolate and only return to their shifts after testing negative.
