Mission Statement

The mission of Friendship House is to provide a continuum of quality programs and services to enhance the emotional, behavioral and social well-being of children and families in the communities we serve. Adapting to society's ever-changing needs will enable Friendship House to sustain this mission as it has since its founding in 1871.

Description

Established in 1871, Friendship House is a nonprofit children's charity with several sites throughout Eastern Pennsylvania. Friendship House offers a full range of programs and services for more than 500 children daily from birth to age 18 system-wide serving 21 counties of Pennsylvania. Programs address the needs of children and families who are experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties and/or mental health issues, those who have been traumatized by loss, abuse and neglect, children who have witnessed violence, children with autism spectrum disorders and children who can no longer reside with their birth family.

The Pottstown location of Friendship House has provided foster family care and adoption services for children and families in Montgomery, Chester, Berks, Bucks, Delaware, and Philadelphia counties since 1990. This location also offers the Parent-Child Home Program, an early literacy, in-home visiting program to at-risk families with young children; the purpose of the program is to build school readiness skills in the children and help caregivers become their child's first and most important lifelong teacher. Other locations of Friendship House include Philadelphia (foster care/adoption services; group home care for boys); Pottsville (group home care for boys); Honesdale (early childhood program); and Scranton (educational services, foster care/adoption services, day partial hospitalization, early childhood program, evening-partial hospitalization, outpatient services, autism spectrum services and trauma counseling).
