Mission Statement

The Special Olympics Schools Partnership Program will provide sports training and competition opportunities within the school day to enhance the physical, emotional, and academic potential of students with special needs. This effort will foster a strong sense of community and raise awareness of the developmental diversity within the school population.

Description

Competitions held during the school day. No outside time commitment since the program is integrated into classroom activities. Competitions are fieldtrips with Special Olympics providing guides, curriculum, and equipment. Students of all abilities between 6 and 22 are eligible to compete. The program is voluntary for all teachers and students. Any interested teacher and students may participate with each sport season lasting eight to ten weeks. Participating classes receive an equipment kit and lesson plans for each sport. Classes will train during the regular school day. There will be at least one competition opportunity. Athletes will receive ribbons and medals for their achievement.
