Mission Statement
New England Farm Workers' Council (NEFWC) is striving to make a positive difference in the communities we serve. WIA ROOTS Mentoring was created in 2013, by a team of AmeriCorps VISTA's, as a component to the New England Farm Workers' Council WIA Youth GED program. WIA Youth works with at risk low-income teens and young adult’s age 16-21 that have left the traditional school setting. WIA provides online GED preparation as well as tutoring and guidance in planning for the next step in life.
Description
Many of the students we serve lack the social, emotional, and professional guidance they need to take the "next step" in their lives. Volunteer mentors fill this void in the lives of their mentees, simply by being a friend and motivating resource. For young people faced with adversity, such bonds can have lasting and measurable influence. Our mentors and staff work to help marginalized young people identify life goals and guide them to the path of personal, professional, and social success.
