Mission Statement

International Community High School was established in 2006 with the goal to provide opportunities and academic success to recently arrived immigrant students in New York. ICHS aims to provide a quality education for a diverse population of recently arrived immigrants that will allow them to develop linguistic, cognitive and cultural skills necessary for success in high school, college and beyond.

Description

Within our diverse community, fluency in a language other than English is an asset that is celebrated. Through five interdisciplinary teams and project based instruction students collaboratively learn English. Students develop their language skills through literacy rich content area studies. Teachers are empowered to collaborate within discipline and interdisciplinary teams to foster high expectations guiding our students to reach their full English-speaking potential. Students learn collaboratively in classes grouped with 9 th and 10 th grade mixed (Junior Institute) and 11 th and 12 th grade mixed (Senior Institute). All students are English Language Learners who are simultaneously building content knowledge and English language skills.
