Partners for Active Living seeks to make Spartanburg County, SC a healthy, more livable community by promoting walking, bicycling and physical activity as a part of everyday life.
Over the last 8 years, Partners for Active Living (PAL) has developed a comprehensive approach to pursuing our mission , which is to make Spartanburg County a healthy, more livable community by promoting walking, bicycling , and physical activity as a part of everyday life. As a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to improving and supporting active living habits in Spartanburg, SC, we employ three main strategies: p romoting a ctive l ifestyles , a dvocating a ctive e nvironments and e ducating the c ommunity and its l eadership . The combination of these three major programs is designed to help us reach all ages, races and genders within the entire Spartanburg County area.
1. Promoting a ctive l ifestyles . Partners for Active Living strives to promote active lifestyles in both children and adults. While we believe that a more activity-friendly environment will spur physical activity, we also believe that people need to be reintroduced to a healthier, more active lifestyle. Modern conveniences such as cars, elevators, escalators, television and movies replace physical activity in almost every facet of daily life. Our message is simple -MOVE MORE.
2.Advocating a ctive e nvironments . Partners for Active Living advocates and pursues the creation of activity-friendly environments to provide more opportunities for daily physical activity for Spartanburg County residents. Through a number of means, we advocate pedestrian and bicycle enhancements in the Spartanburg metropolitan area and in several county municipalities. PAL also assists in finding funds to implement identified projects.
3. Educating the c ommunity and its l eadership. At the center of every Partners for Active Living effort is the aim to educate and motivate our community leaders to understand the health benefits of physical activity, to recognize the impact that community design has on our health and quality of life and to pursue new strategies and practices supporting active environments.
Partnerships with a variety of local and state organizations have led to successful community trainings, workshops and conferences designed to build the capacity of our residents, government staff, organizational leaders and elected officials throughout the City and County to create a healthy, active and truly livable Spartanburg.
