Mission Statement

Home Free Mission

Home Free believes that violence against women and children is firmly rooted in a society that supports gender-based inequalities in power and privilege. Sexism, racism, sexual and gender minority oppression, classism, anti-Semitism, able-bodyism, sizeism, ageism, and other oppressions perpetuate the conditions in which violence prevails. Home Free's mission is to work to end the violence. In our Emergency Services, Transitional Housing, and Outreach Programs, we provide safety and opportunities for self-empowerment for women and children. On a community level, we offer education which addresses the causes and consequences of domestic and sexual violence and build coalitions with others in the movement toward social change.

Description

VOA Oregon's domestic violence intervention program adopted the name Home Free in 2003 to reflect the aim of its innovative model: to assist adults and children surviving odmestic violence to move not just toward safety, but toward freedom and all that the word home suggests. VOA has been serving women and children who are surviving domestic violence and homelessness for over seventy years.

Many volunteers have made meaningful long term commitments to Home Free's Women and Children's advocacy programs, support groups, community education program and our outreach services. Home Free asks volunteers to make a 6-month to one-year commitment of 3-4 hours per week. Thank you for joining us in working towards ending domestic violence and oppression.
