The World Wide Web Foundation seeks to advance the Web, connect humanity and empower people. The Foundation will fund and coordinate efforts that work toward a future: served by One Web that is free and open, where understanding, capability and robustness of the Web improves where the Web is usable by all people, and where useful content and services are available for people who might benefit from it

The mission of the World Wide Web Foundation is to: Advance the Web. Empower people. Two-page Executive Summary (PDF) To achieve our mission, the Foundation will fund and coordinate efforts that work toward a future: served by One Web that is free and open, where understanding, capability and robustness of the Web improves where the Web is usable by all people, and where useful content and services are available for all people who might benefit from it Seed funding from the Knight Foundation and its Media Innovation Initiative, has enable the Web Foundation to get started. Keys to our ultimate success include raising funds to start local and global projects that will have significant impacts, and building a global community of passionate and talented people to help us -- expanding the community already in place through our partners the World Wide Web Consortium and Web Science Research Initiative. The Web Foundation plans to launch and become operational by the end of 2009.
