Mission Statement

Participation in the arts unties a community and articulates its identity. The Arts Center inspires, educates, and engages a diverse population in the creation of contemporary visual art by providing a dynamic, professional environment to foster the creative process, allowing artist and the community to meet and exchange ideas.

Description

The Morean Arts Center, founded in 1917 as the Art Club of St. Petersburg, has provided art exhibitions and studio art classes in all media for more than 90 years.

Today, annual attendance at the Morean exceeds 81,000; membership is held by over 2,700 households; the professional staff numbers 17; classes are taught by over 50 contract instructors; and over 100 volunteers work with the Morean in a wide variety of ways.

The Morean is known as one of the most comprehensive and successful visual arts organizations in the region. Nearly 40,000 children and adults are served each year by the Morean's classes, school tours, workshops, camps, photo talks, programs for at-risk youth, gallery talks, family days and special events. The Morean Arts Center draws visitors from Tampa Bay, across the United States and internationally.
