The Frick Collection's purpose, derived from the will of Henry Clay Frick, is "to establish, maintain and add to, a gallery of art to encourage and develop the study of the fine arts and to advance the general knowledge of kindred subjects...for the use and benefit of all persons..."

The Frick Collection is primarily a permanent collection that also features special exhibitions in the former home of Mr. Frick and offers an array of educational programs to the public and its membership.
