To assist at risk girls ages 10-17 transition to womanhood
GEMS provides OST activities 2 sessions twice per week, serving approximately 15 -20 girls per session. Each class works from researched based curriculum focused on pre determined themes, related activities, and culmination events to measure outcomes.
65% of students will decrease violent behavior, increase independent thinking, improve daily living skills, and healthy lifestyles.
Curriculum will be administered quarterly, ending in opportunities for reflection and measurement using Pre and post surveys.
This organization is one of the rare few that cater to at-risk girls, ages 10-19 of all races...they never turn a girl away. Every program is specifically designed to give the participants a different perspective on relevant issues such as teen dating violence, life skills, job preparation, etc. They believe in remaining active in the community and partnering with other organizations, which instills a sense of team work and synergy within the organization. I've volunteered with this organization since 2008 and I still highly recommend it to any teen girl today!! As social/economic issues change, the program continues to edit, revise and innovate to move forward, continuing to effectively reach their population. Awesome!!
