The mission of our agency is to enhance and improve the quality of life for families living with sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait in Texas.

Description

We are the only agency servicing Central Texas and the State of Texas addressing this life threatening hereditary blood disease.Our services include education, awareness, outreach, advocacy, support and assistance.

Sickle cell disease is a hereditary life threatening blood disease that attacks the red blood cells. These "sickled" cells cuts off oxygen to various parts of the body causing excruciating pain known as "pain crisis". These painful crisis can damage lungs, kidneys, liver, heart and all major organs. There is no cure. Symptoms include stroke, jaundice, fatigue, joint pain, and swollen hands and feet. Sickle cell disease affects African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Italians, Greeks and people of Mediterranean descent.
