Mission Statement

  1. We consider service an essential, daily part of living out authentic Christian faith.
  2. By giving and receiving God's love, stereotypes are broken down, people physically feel God's presence and we build the Kingdom of God.
  3. We work in partnership with other organizations that value the gifts and the needs of Hollywood and the surrounding Los Angeles areas.
  4. We are relational, in that we seek to walk alongside others instead of assuming their needs and trust that, as time is spent and trust is earned, natural service will spring from the relationship.

Description

This year, our five city Dwellers hail from Kansas, Arizona, Ohio, Georgia, and Mississippi. They will be working at agencies like PATH (People Assisting the Homeless), Door of Hope, and the Salvation Army's Alegria House, working with homelessness and street life from a variety of angles. They will also be working hard to reveal the amazing ways God is moving in the Hollywood neighborhood they are living, which is a beautiful and vibrant community primarily of South American immigrants (some documented, some not). Sometimes, this neighborhood is plagued by violence and gang related tensions. Afternoon and weekend tutoring are offered, maintaining a community garden, opening their doors to allow kids living on the streets and in overcrowded apartments to have fellowship and Bible studies when needed. All of this occurs in the context of a simple and intentional Christian community, and visitors are always welcome to observe, participate, and see the face of God in our city!
