Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. To provide community leadership focused on relieving the suffering of, preventing cruelty to, and providing for the humane treatment of animals.
The Toledo Area Humane Society handles hundreds of animals per year and investigates more than 1000 cases of cruelty, neglect, and abandonment each year, the majority of cases involve domestic pets. Our three primary service programs include: 1) Cruelty Investigations: Society agents investigate all reported cases of alleged cruelty to animals in Lucas County Some cases end up in a court of law. 2)Adoption Services: Healthy domestic animals are adopted from THS after receiving veterinary attention, including spaying/neutering. 3)Education: THS personnel and volunteers travel to schools in Lucas County and provide educational tours to spread the important message of responsible pet ownership.
