Parkside -learning and working together for everyone's personal best-
Parkside Elementary is a Pre-K through Sixth grade elementary school. We currently number 830 children with approximately 60 instructional faculty and staff members. We are proud of our school building and our beautiful school grounds, which include a popular all-inclusive playground, many soccer fields, basketball courts, and a beautiful central court yard. Parkside enjoys an involved and active parent/teacher organization (PTO). The PTO sponsors many family-oriented activities each year and fully supports our school by enhancing the facilities, materials, programs, and opportunities for students by organizing fund raisers and volunteering time in the classrooms during the school day.
The curriculum in every grade provides active hands-on, experiential learning opportunities for all boys and girls. Academic programs are extended by experiences in the arts, including art, vocal music, instrumental music, physical education and library science.
At Parkside, teachers work together to meet the needs of all students in an accessible facility and an inclusive learning environment. Guided by our vision - Parkside - learning and working together for everyone's personal best, we come together as a caring community of learners.
With this in mind, Parkside is proud to say, for eight straight years (2000-2007) we have received the Four Star School Award for the State of Indiana.
We hope the information in this website helps you to get to know us better! Thank you for your interest in Parkside Elementary School.
I have worked with the Parkside staff on the Book Buddies and the KITE programs. Columbus is fortunate to have a school with a staff that has the energy and talent to create and manage such effect programs. It is a joy for me to participate in these efforts to better serve the young people who are the future of our community. To me personally it is exciting and rewarding to watch the growth of the children. Without these programs many of these children would become burdens rather than assets to our community. KITE is in need of more volunteers. This is a wonderful opportunity to have fun, contribute to your community and have the joy of watching little light bulbs turn on. The KITE program takes a small amount of your time to make a big impact on little people's lives and the future of our community. Come join us!
Parkside Elementary School's KITE after-school tutoring program is one that inspires not only the students but also its volunteers.
I am a First Grade teacher at Parkside and feel privileged to work these students every week.
The program is designed to meet the needs of learners in small group and individual settings. Volunteers are given information of what the students need support in, assigned a group of students, and are given a space to work that is quiet and conducive to learning.
Our students involved in the tutoring program are ones that need an extra boost of confidence, encouragement, and support. It is very rewarding as a volunteer to see these students transform and develop right before your eyes.
If you want to work with a small group of students who you can make a difference in, please volunteer for KITE. Your time spent with these students will make a difference in your life too.
All three of my Children went to Parkside for their elementary education. They all excel at academics, largely in part from the educational experience gained from Parkside.
I currently volunteer at Parkside for 3-6th graders. I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to help the young kids learn. The teachers and support staff are very helpful, and provide very clear instructions for lessons, activities, etc. prior to each tutoring session. The environment is conducive to learning, and organized well. I look forward to each KITE session I attend, as I enjoy experiencing the excitement when the children learn the material, and the satisfaction that they get when they succeed in their lesson.
