Mission Statement
The Vera Project (Vera) is a music and arts center dedicated to fostering a participatory creative culture through popular music concerts, arts programs, experiential learning and volunteer opportunities for all ages, especially young people.
Description
Vera was founded in 2001 to produce all-ages concerts in Seattle. (In the context of popular music "all-ages" refers to events/venues that include those under 21; in Seattle the vast majority of live music is restricted to those of drinking age.) Since then Vera has provided a safe, accessible, substance free space for people of all ages to experience quality music and art. Vera's innovative, participatory structure transcends commercial entertainment and breaks down divisions between young and old, performer, staff and audience.
Vera's programming serves people of all ages, with a focus on teens and young adults, and occurs primarily at Vera's Seattle Center venue. Programming serves over 50,000 annually and includes:
- Popular music concerts
- Visual art exhibits
- Silkscreen printing/classes
- Audio engineering training
- Live and studio recording
- Event production training
- Youth driven governance
- Leadership training
- Internships
