Mission Statement

Chaverim, a program of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles is committed to providing a social friendship program for adults with developmental and other disabilities. At Chaverim, participants realize their potential and become active, vital members of our community.

Description

Without the existence of Chaverim, there is a void of activities in our community which address socialization for adults with developmental disabilities. Though some things may be more difficult for them, they still have the same wants and desires as others their age. Our supportive environment helps members realize their potential through a variety of opportunities which help them become active, vital members of the community. Our goal is to provide such opportunities and experiences that our members are not able to have on their own without the help of the Chaverim program and staff. These include regular ongoing activities such as bowling, art classes, dances, bingo, sporting events, and movie and dinner outings. Activities also have included day trips to Disneyland, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Catalina. These are experiences that our members would not be able to enjoy on their own without the help of this special program and its skilled staff and program volunteers.
