BENNU Legal Services NFP is a community-based nonprofit organization that works with suburban-based immigrants and entrepreneurial businesses to build stronger and healthier communities. BENNU Legal provides legal and business counseling services to families and small-business entrepreneurs on a sliding-fee scale, often on a "low bono" basis. Through its services, BENNU Legal aids families in obtaining legal benefits available under US immigration law, and helps to create jobs and assist entrepreneurs in realizing the "American Dream." We exist to reach out to and serve newcomers to the United States with various legal issues that they face. When we provide a welcoming and respectful environment, everything else falls into place. Our services will exceed the expectations of our customers.
BENNU Legal Services NFP ("BENNU Legal") is a nonprofit agency that helps newcomers to the United States integrate into American society, thereby building stronger and healthier communities through legal counseling and education.
BENNU Legal offers affordable help with legal immigration to newcomers, as well as legal counseling to small-business entrepreneurs (often also immigrants). To those who qualify, BENNU Legal offers legal aid to those that cannot afford to pay the high fees of private law firms. Due to language barriers and other factors, the aid that BENNU Legal provides is to an underserved segment of the population.
ACCESS Lake County (Agencies Closely Cooperating to Enable Suburban & rural Services) allows BENNU to efficiently deliver critical services to more families and individuals through added collaboration with other agencies. Through BENNU's cooperative relationships, BENNU provides those in crisis with legal help via local community-based and faith-based organizations. Community members who are often victims of domestic violence or other crimes or who have very limited financial means gain access to the additional services provided by BENNU and delivered in cooperation with these other agencies.
The SKILL (Strengthening Knowledge of Immigrants through Legalization & Learning) program enhances the aptitudes of program participants. Many of BENNU's pro-bono or low-bono clients have limited education and skills. This often traps them in low-skilled, low-paying jobs or even prevents them from helping their own children to learn. SKILL program participants receive training in an office environment and about such topics as financial literacy. This training helps them gain confidence and to develop their professional and administrative skills, thereby enhancing their employability and their ability to integrate themselves and their families into the community.
