Mission Statement
Bank On Oakland's mission is to help Californians achieve financial mobility by connecting them with free financial education and low-cost mainstream financial services.
Description
Bank on Oakland is an initiative of the City of Oakland, the Office of Mayor Ronald V. Dellums, and United Way of the Bay Area as a part of the Bank on California project led by the Office of Governor Schwarzenegger to ensure every resident has access to mainstream financial services. 26% of Oakland households are without access to checking or savings accounts. Through Bank on Oakland, those who are unbanked or need a second-chance account have access to low or no cost banking products and free financial education. This will help working families in Oakland reduce their use of payday loan systems, increase financial education and provide entry on the road to financial self-sufficiency.
