Mission Statement

The Neighborhood Learning Community is committed to creating a culture of learning on the West Side of St. Paul. The NLC believes in recognizing diverse talents, focusing on learning and reflection, achieving abundance through collaboration, engaging with big questions and ideas and grounding the work in the neighborhood.

Description

The NLC provides a variety of means by which organizations on the West Side create collaborative efforts to create a culture of learning, such as:

The West Side Youth Circulator
A free bus for young people that runs all over the West Side, connecting various learning opportunities and residential areas.

The Youth Apprenticeship Project
Teens obtain meaningful work through apprenticeships at businesses and organizations on the West Side.

All Around The Neighborhood
The West Side becomes a living classroom by encouraging community members to teach fun topics at different and sometimes surprising sites throughout the neighborhood.

West Side Kid Connection
Monthly lunch meetings where those concerned with youth success and education on the West Side can meet to discuss concerns and share triumphs.

After-School Programming
Teens take part in free, creative learning opportunities at Humboldt, Neighborhood House, St. Matt's and GAP taught by members of the community.
