Mission Statement

To Promote and Develop the Growth of Tennis

USTA/Virginia Tennis (VT) was established in 1968 as a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote and develop the game of tennis. It is a District representative of the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The Virginia District encompasses the entire state and is the largest of the four Districts, which make up the USTA/Mid-Atlantic Section (MAS).

The Virginia Tennis office offers a professional staff and volunteers to promote and develop the game of tennis in your community. The USTA offers a wide variety of programs for recreational and competitive players of all ages. Currently, we support over 20,000 individual members and over 200 organizational members, including more than 30 Community Tennis Associations. The USTA Tennis pathway of programs held throughout the state of Virginia involves over 13,000 recreational and competitive participants, from novice to the experienced. Over 12,000 adults, senior and mixed league players participate in USTA League Tennis as well. Virginia Tennis sanctions over two hundred tournaments per year and determines state rankings for both junior and adult participants. In addition to these activities, Virginia Tennis promotes and supports community events, participates in the Special Olympics and supports Wheelchair Tennis programs in conjunction with USTA Challenger Tournaments, ATP Tour Tournaments, and Senior Circuit Tournaments.

With all of the activities that Virginia Tennis is involved with, one might ask; how do we do it? The answer is our most valuable resource of dedicated volunteers, who serve on our Board of Directors, committees, local community tennis associations and assist with special events. We are always looking for those that love the game of tennis and can volunteer their time to help us with event planning, on-site event coordination, office administration, or to serve on our committees and the board of directors.

We have knowledgeable and reliable staff that can assist you in answering any questions you may have. Check out our USTA/Virginia Tennis Staff Responsibilities and their descriptions so you may direct your question to the person who can give you the best response possible.

Sincerely yours,

Janine Underwood
Executive Director
