The mission of Legal Aid Society of Orange County (LASOC) and Community Legal Services in southeast Los Angeles County is to provide civil legal services to low-income individuals and to seniors and to promote equal access to the justice system through advocacy, legal counseling, innovative self-help services, in-depth legal representation, economic development and community education.

Description

Each year, Legal Aid Society of Orange County, in conjunction with the IRS, coordinates the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA is a volunteering program that provides students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience preparing federal and state tax returns for economically disadvantaged people in the local community. Benefits include receiving IRS training and certification, resume building and networking while providing a service to the community.
