Mission Statement

The Las Vegas Wash Coordination Committee works to protect and enhance the Las Vegas Wash.

Description

In 1998, a citizens advisory committee formed by the Southern Nevada Water Authority requested the development of a plan to restore and protect the Las Vegas Wash, a largely man-made tributary that carries shallow groundwater, stormwater, urban runoff and treated wastewater to Lake Mead. Although the wash accounts for only 1.5 percent of the lake's inflows, it plays an important role in watershed protection. The wetlands surrounding the Las Vegas Wash also provide habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals.
