Mission Statement

Care First Hospice is an organization committed to providing a comprehensive, quality, and interdisciplinary program of care and services to terminally ill patients, their families and significant others.

Description

Care First Hospice offers quality end-of-life care to terminally ill patients and their families. We operate with the philosophy that while death is a natural occurrence, dying iteself can be a major life crisis. The Care First Hospice staff believes in the innate value of human life, in the potential for self growth during and after times of crisis, and in the right of each human being the freedom of choice.

Styles of coping with crisis and stress vary widely among indiciduals. Hospice is based on a holistic view of each patient, with attention to the physicial, psychological, spiritual, and interpersonal needs as defined by the patient and family.

The primary goal is comfort care and quality of life after reasonable measures of cure have failed. Specifically this means patients remain alert, comfortable, and pain free in the place of their choice, in the manner they wish, and providing them with the support needed to live and die in their own way, with dignity maintained.

Another goal is to identify patient/family needs and then design interventions that will fulfill those needs. The Care First Hospice staff supports exisiting coping methods or provides guidance in teh development of alternatives.

Hospice care is provided through the collaborative efforts of an interdisciplinary team and can be practiced in any setting (home, hospital, extended care facility), given the acknowledgement of the importance of the Hospice philosophy, which is the guiding focus of our care.
