Mission Statement

The mission of the New Orleans Women's Shelter is to provide a safe, healthy living environment to assist homeless women and children in the New Orleans area regain their independence.

Description

In the months after the storm, the Women's Shelter provided a space for displaced women who wanted to return to New Orleans to rebuild their lives. We continue to be the only shelter in New Orleans that accepts displaced residents who are trying to get back home. Since its opening in 2005, the Women's Shelter has expanded to accept homeless women who stayed in New Orleans after Katrina but are now finding it difficult to stay in the city with limited job prospects and a lack of affordable housing.
