Mission Statement
The Social Issues Resource Center offers opportunities to the WWU campus and surrounding Bellingham and Whatcom communities to raise consciousness about local and global social issues, empowers individuals with knowledge and skills to effectively organize around those issues, and connects WWU students with each other and with community based organizations. The SIRC programs events, consults and advises students involved in programming and/or campaigns, and houses a library of social justice resources. The SIRC aims to create an environment conducive to meaningful political and personal dialogue with all members of all Bellingham and WWU communities.
Description
Basically, there are 4 main components to what we do and offer:
1. If you are intereted in programming an event... We love to work with you or your club/organization to co-sponsor events on social issues, just send an email, stop by the office, or call!\
2. Enjoy movies and Books... Check out materials from our Resource Library for a paper or personal interest on topics such as race, identity, war, immigration, and globalization.
3. Need a safe space to talk about a social issue... Come visit our confidential and inviting office!
4. Want to attend one of our events... Every quarter we put on multiple social issue events that include films, spoken word artists, concerts, speakers, workshops, and panel discussions.
