Description
In May 1995 Family Connection began building its capacity to serve families in the Upstate with primary funding from The Children's Hospital of Greenville Hospital System University Medical System. In February 2002, Family Connection co-located within the William R. DeLoache Center for Developmental Services (CDS). The opportunities for collaboration have increased and in 2003 with a grant from the Duke Endowment, five support groups have been added and in the year ending June 30, 2005 referrals increased by 64% and matches by 60%. Hispanic outreach has been recognized with support from the Greenville Junior League. Other programs include in-hospital support for families including the neo-natal intensive care unit, Parent Council, and in the Center for Pediatric Medicine. Medical students and physicians who are pediatric residents interact with Family Connection families as part of their education and competencies.
