Mission Statement

The mission of Time Dollar Tutoring is to advance educational opportunities for the underprivileged, reduce the digital divide and combat community deterioration.

Description

Time Dollar Tutoring is an after school peer tutoring program focused on schools with a high poverty rate. We teach older students how to tutor younger students. They meet one hour after school, five days a week, for twenty-eight weeks. Parents are required to attend a local school council meeting and a community-policing meeting. Together, the family earns 100 Time Dollars (one Time Dollar equals one hour of service). The reward for both tutor and tutee is an Internet ready, refurbished computer to take home. To date, we have placed 5,075 computers in needy homes, generated 505,000 hours of additional instructional time in math and reading, 21,200 hours of parental involvement and redirected 450 tons of computer waste out of our landfills. (Thatà ¢à  à  s the equivalence of 900 pickup trucks). Our students increase their test scores in math and reading by an average of one grade level.
