Inspire our youth by refereeing at a robotics competition. This fall, teams of Minnesota kids in grades 4 - 12 are preparing to compete in FIRST LEGO League Challenge (FLL) and in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics programs. We need enthusiastic referees to officiate competitions from November thru February. Referees officiate robot performance matches, tabulate scores, and encourage teams in a fun, energy charged environment. New referees will be paired with an experienced volunteer at their first event. Referee training is in October thru November either at our High Tech Kids office or via webinar, (see our website hightechkids.org/volunteer-overview/training-sessions/ for more information and exact training schedule). Beyond November videos of live training sessions will be available. Following volunteer training spend a full Saturday or Sunday of your choice in November through February refereeing robotics matches at a High Tech Kids Robotics Tournament. See shifts for dates and locations of tournaments. Youth volunteers with experience in the FIRST programs are considered on a case by case basis. Please see our website to learn more about these exciting programs and the referee volunteer role, then sign up via our Volunteer Sign up page. Contact Barb at volunteer@hightechkids.org or visit https://hightechkids.org/volunteer-overview/ for more information.

Be inspired by what kids can accomplish as a judge at a FIRST Tech Challenge tournament. We need both technical and non-technical judges to make Robotics tournaments a success. This fall, students in grades 7 to 12 will form Robotics teams to participate in the FIRST Tech Challenge Into the Deep. In Minnesota these talented kids will compete at an event organized by High Tech Kids. Join us to be inspired by these students. Following volunteer training in October or November, spend a full Saturday or Sunday of your choice in November through February judging teams at a High Tech Kids Robotics Tournament. Kids will explain what they learned and built through this FIRST program. Judges ask questions and provide encouragement to teams during judging sessions, then collaborate with other judges to determine award winners. See the shifts for dates and locations of tournaments. New volunteers will be paired with an experienced volunteer for their first assignment. For more information about the volunteer roles, Training dates, and Volunteer Resources see our website (https://hightechkids.org/volunteer-overview) or contact Barb at volunteer@hightechkids.org.
