Mission Statement
Jump Start Your Heart, Inc. is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established primarily to enhance the positive quality of life of competitive athletes, one-by-one, through the dynamic power to identify cardiovascular abnormalities. Screening for detection of the most common diseases responsible for sudden cardiac death in young athletes, and affords the athletes an opportunity for potential life saving information. Secondarily, educating athletes, their families, athletic staffers and the public as a whole on the importance of cardiovascular preparticipation screening, heart disease, nutrition, exercise are additional means of empowering them with skills to maintain a heart rhythm of survival.
Description
VISION STATEMENT: Jump Start Your Heart, Inc. will be the recognized leader in the use of additional noninvasive diagnostic tests in the screening process in young athletes.
GOAL: Decrease the occurrence of death of athletes caused by cardiovascular abnormalities.
OBJECTIVES:
§ Provide noninvasive diagnostic testing as a part of the competitive athletes screening process
§ Promote education about heart disease, nutrition and exercise for young athletes
§ Provide education, equipment and training (e.g. CPR, Automatic External Defibrillator) to the medical related and/or coaching staff who work with athletes
§ Heighten awareness and protect against sudden cardiac arrest and life threatening arrhythmias and their incidence within our community
§ Provide educational scholarships to future Cardiovascular Specialist
§ Establish universally accepted standards for the screening of high school and college athletes
§ Advocate for the development of an approved certification procedure for healthcare professionals who perform examinations, including clear legal precedent regarding their duty to require or conduct preparticipation screening of athletes to detect medically significant abnormalities.
