Mission Statement
To provide in-home counseling to seniors who are dealing with the issues of aging.
Description
We are one of a number of Senior Peer Counseling programs statewide. We train volunteers to provide confidential counseling to seniors who are isolated, depressed, dealing with family issues or the normal issues of aging. Our counselors meet with their assigned senior is his or her home and make sure that the person is getting the care and services needed from community providers. The counselor usually meets with the client on a weekly basis for as long as it takes to help the senior feel better about the problems presented in the beginning.
Amador Senior Peer Counseling has been offering services to the community for the past five years. The training takes place at the Senior Center and once trained the counselors meet together twice monthly for case-management and support.
Mary Pulskamp, MFT, and Pat Houghton, Program Coordinator, provide the training and supervision. We welcome senior men and women to our program.
