Mission Statement

We envision a world in which service, social justice and global awareness are critical components of education for youth everywhere, creating a generation of young people who think of 'service' as an integrated part of their day to day existence and lead initiatives in their communities that improve lives.

Living Histories is based on the principle that all young people should have the opportunity to learn and live up to their fullest potential, and that education is a tool to improve the quality of life. Living Histories reconceptualizes education, defining it as the primary tool through which youth and students engage in and change their communities.

Description

Living Histories provides innovative curriculum and programming, helping our student find their own voice and create positive change within their own communities.

Our students come out of our programs with improved critical thinking, literacy and artistic skills, but more importantly, as experienced creators of community based initiatives and an understanding of their ability to be a force for change and service.

In essence, the Living Histories Program model emphasizes the utilization of technology, art and literacy and a project based learning model to teach a subject or topic.

The subject or topic is varied - we have a wide variety of curriculum on a dozen different topics - but the outcome is always the same:
students are led through lessons with the goal of helping them find, in some capacity, their voice. They then take their voice, and whatever skill set they have learned in that given curriculum, and develop a community service project of some type that they then implement.
