Mission Statement

The Public Library is Lantana's information center. We provide books, periodicals, reference works, materials in other formats, and access to electronic information resources to support formal and informal education, assist those with reference queries, and satisfy recreational reading interests. We offer instruction on the use of information resources and tools and provide a variety of informative programs. The Library offers to all its users a welcoming and comfortable facility.

Established in April, 1996, the Lantana Public Library serves the Town of Lantana (population approx. 10,000) and surrounding areas of Palm Beach County, Florida. Our collection of 21,000 volumes has all been added since 1996, most in the period since 2000. One full time Director, two part-time assistants (total 21 hours/week), and an enthusiastic corps of 20-30 volunteers (depending on the season) open the Library for 44 hours a week. Over 16,000 users spent 9,000 hours on our 8 public computers in 2008. Volunteers offer one-to-one tutorials on internet searching, e-mail, Microsoft Word, and job searching.

The Friends of the Lantana Public Library, Inc. has 190 members, supports the Library through on-going book sales, and produces a Newsletter twice a year. The Lantana Library Foundation, Inc. has raised more than $70,000 in the past ten years.
