Mission Statement

The mission of the After School Academy is to improve student achievement by inspiring creativity, promoting team work, and providing a fun, safe, and supportive place for students to be after school.

Description

The After School Academy was established in the fall of 2008 to provide a high quality after school program for students in East Palo Alto's Ravenswood City School District. The After School Academy is partnered with CostaƱo: Home of the 49ers, a K-8 school.

Our elementary program has three components: literacy support, homework help, and enrichment. Our middle school program has two: homework help and project-based enrichment. Providing middle school students with engaging and meaningful enrichment is essential to creating a strong program. That is why our staff has worked to create quarterly clubs that run for two hours a day, five days a week. These nine week clubs have a project based curriculum where students are expected to create a project plan, implement the plan, and have something to perform, show, or celebrate at the end of the nine weeks. Some of the clubs we offer include: Girls and Boys Athletics, 8-80 Media Team, Youth and Community Service, Girl's TV, Choir, Yearbook, Cooking, Art, and Gardening.
