Mission Statement

Mission Statement: Putting God's love into action, Skagit Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, community and hope. Vision Statement: Empowering people to empower themselves

Skagit Habitat for Humanity was established in 1994 and will celebrate its first homeowners to pay off their Habitat Home this year. We have helped build safe, affordable homes with 29 hardworking, deserving Partner Families. In 2014, our volunteers contributed more than 69,000 hours to SHFH! We are currently building the first of seven homes in the Summerlynd development in Mount Vernon. To qualify as a SHFH Partner Family, the family must go through our orientation process, pass criminal/credit checks, provide documentation that would be required for purchase of a home through any other lending service, complete a portion of their 500 total "sweat equity" hours required of them, and attend required classes.

Building homes is not all we do. SHFH’s Habitat Helpers Program has provided minor repairs and maintenance for more than two dozen low-income homeowners, allowing them to stay in their homes. More than 250 people have come through SHFH for on-the-job training at our SHFH Store, making SHFH one of the largest training centers in the county. Through 2015, SHFH homes have generated $498,815 in property taxes, and the Store has generated $198,115 in sales tax, all of which goes back to Skagit County. With our "Recycle, Re-Use, Restore" motto here at the Habitat Store, we have saved more than 14,000 tons of resalable materials from our local landfills!
