Mission Statement

The mission of CHD is to promote health and well being in individuals, families and communities. We envision physically and emotionally healthy children, youth and adults of all ages living in safe communities.

Description

We run different 2 programs ; Youth striving for Excellence and Log Cabin Detention Facility. In the first program, we provide services to students enrolled in continuation high schools in San Francisco through workshops addressing topics like sustance abuse, sexuality, nutrition, self esteem, conflict resolution, goal setting. These interactive classes enable the students to be aware of they risk they face and encourage them to make positive decisions and adopt healthy lifestyles. Simultaneously, we place mentors and role models in the classes to support students and teachers and to encourage educational projects as well as to give a hand for academic achievement. The second program is run in a rehabilitation center for young men, one hour from the city ; the Sexual Assault Program and Domestic Violence curriculum seeks to sensitize young men to gender stereotypes, sexual agression, victim survivor effects, and introduce them to new conflict resolution and decision making strategies to replace behaviors that include emotional, verbal, physical, and sexual abuse. The first program is coordinated and developed by Mona Lisa Trevino and Chiraz Mahmoud. The second is managed by Nina Rose Fisher.
