Mission Statement
Rockin' for a Reason was founded in 2006 as a way to "pay it forward." Founded by Breast Cancer Survivor, Dani Kelly, and her boyfriend, Paul Washa, Rockin' for a Reason seeks to raise awareness for the disease at the same time as it raises money for one organization seeking to find a cure and another local organization seeking to make the fight more bearable. Our mission is to continue to raise money in a fun, yet effective manner while continuing to raise awareness and celebrating those who have survived the disease as well as those who have lost the brave fight. If we can save one life in the process, all the better.
Description
Rockin' for a Reason has raised over $17,500 over the past three years with a music festival called Rocktoberfest. Extended to a two-day festival in 2008, the event subtly raises cancer awareness while treating participants to an "afternoon of food, music, and fun." Rocktoberfest primarily benefits a Rockford based charity, The Inspiration for Hope Foundation, with some proceeds going to the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. The two organizations the event benefits serve two purposes in the fight against Breast Cancer. The Inspiration for Hope Foundation seeks to support women currently involved in the fight good quality wigs, head wraps, makeup consultations, and prosthetic breasts. Lack of money should never mean that a woman should go through the fight without her self-esteem intact. The American Cancer Society funds research, support groups, and educational programs throughout the world. The money raised from our event is earmarked for their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign and we have been assured that our contributions stay in the state-line area.
